  • Johannesburg Client (Casa Nyumba) off to Zimbabwe
    Casa Nyumba, a Client at Furntech Johannesburg, has been sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry to participate at an International Trade Initiative in Harare, Zimbabwe from the 26th to the 30th of March 2012. Well done to Casa Nyumba!
  • Furntech and TTC South African Swedish Design Initiative
    During 2011, Furntech in partnership with the Tibro Training Centre (TTC) of Sweden held the first South African Swedish Design Initiative.


    The aim of the initiative was to bring together Clients of the Furntech Centres and Swedish Designers for the purpose of knowledge, design and production sharing interactions.


    The initiative was implemented in two phases, namely a workshop in Durban, South Africa and a workshop in Tibro, Sweden.


    During the initiative, South African designs/influences were exchanged with Swedish designs/influences and vice versa.

    A key objective of the workshops was to develop furniture designs and products that were marketable in South Africa and Sweden.


    The first workshop was held during March 2011 at Furntech Durban and the second workshop was held at the Tibro Training Centre in Tibro, Sweden during September 2011


    It has long been recognized that one of the most significant sources of competitive advantage lies in design and it is hence a key priority of Furntech going foward to develop and nurture local design talent and to facilitate opportunities to showcase local design talent.

  • Furntech Design Technology Incubation Programme
    Furntech is a manufacturing business incubator that offers support to existing and start up businesses by providing incubation facilities for aspiring entrepreneurs with skills in the furniture manufacturing industry. Furntech’s Business Technology Incubation Model has been designed to assist and nurture existing and potential entrepreneurs/businesses through the challenging early stages of developing and growing their businesses.


    A new addition to Furntech’s model has been the Design Technology Incubation Programme (DTI) which focuses on entrepreneurs in the design industry.


    The objectives of the DTI Programme are to:

    Support emerging design businesses through the provision of incubation services to aspiring entrepreneurs in the design industry;


    Assist existing and potential design entrepreneurs to transform their creative professional practice, technological knowledge and theoretical understanding into long term sustainable businesses;


    Facilitate access to high quality design services and capabilities for Furntech clients and to the furniture industry as a whole;

    The individuals/emerging businesses that are targeted for participation in the Furntech DTI Programme include:


    • Those with experience and qualifications in the following fields of design:
     Interior Design;
     Industrial Design;
     Furniture Design;
     Graphic Design
     Visual Art Design...
  • FURNTECH is South Africa’s only Centre of Excellence for the furniture industry and is the first port of call for anyone looking for information on business incubation and / or skills development in furniture manufacturing.

    Our dedication to quality service delivery and our national footprint has resulted in the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FP & M SETA) recognizing Furntech as the Institute of Sectoral and Occupational Excellence for the industry.

    The two components which form Furntech’s integrated service are:

    • Business Technology Incubation of small and micro enterprises (SME’s)

    • Vocational Skills Development

    These services are available at all Furntech Centres which are spread around the country. Through these centres, Furntech is well positioned to fulfil its national mandate of improving skills levels in the industry, raising the level of global competitiveness, stimulating job and SME creation and transferring new technologies to industry partners.

    Furntech’s facilities offer a combination of training, business and technical support in the form of:

    • Business technology incubator space for entrepreneurs

    • Technical expertise for furniture production

    • Shared-use facilities with modern equipment

    • Accredited training programmes presented by qualified and experienced facilitators.
