Recognition of Prior Learning

These are assessments designed to recognise expertise and experience gained in the workplace by the candidate through prior learning.

The assessments are conducted against the registered unit standards, which consist of assessment criteria and credits. The candidate can accumulate credits towards a National Certificate qualification in furniture making. Alternatively the assessment can be conducted against the unit standards and exit level outcomes of a registered furniture making qualification.

A typical qualification assessment takes three days. At the end of this assessment, the candidate is either declared competent or not yet competent.

Candidates that are declared competent are awarded the credits and are certificated.

Candidates that are declared not yet competent may be are awarded credits for specific unit standards. In addition, an individualised development programme is prepared for this candidate.
